ART LIKE AN ARMCHAIR

When making abstract art, Danielle identifies with this quotation of Henri Matisse:

“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity, devoid of troubling or depressing subject-matter, an art which has [… ] a soothing, calming influence on the mind, something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.”

Titia Eggen, visual artist on the art work of Danielle Brouns:

‘The paintings are exciting, evocative, they leave much to guess and are almost elusive.’

Nancy Slangen, Belgian artist and lecturer :

‘I see the rhythm of the city.
I see a horse in the meadow.
I see the colors of a flower field.

And yet… they don’t show on the canvas.’

Danielle Brouns (1957) uses 23 carat gold leaf, oil paint and mixed media. Her technique is inspired by the old masters (many layers of painting and with an underpainting in monochrome colour). She creates tender yet powerful paintings. Her work  is present in art collections around the world. She has worked and exhibited in the Netherlands, Mexico, Belgium and Spain.

Danielle acquired her skills at various art academies in Maastricht, Aix-en-Provence and London, during her 35-year career as a painting restorer and with personal, intensive workshops with well known artists in the Netherlands (Sam Drukker), Spain (Dino Valls, Antonio López), Mexico (Francisco Toledo), United States (David Kassan) and Indonesia (Paul Husner).

She is also a trained journalist and is currently working on a historical countdown calendar for Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary in 2025.
